New Amazon tools for sellers

After facing criticism for allegedly copying popular products and manipulating search results, Amazon has announced new tools to help sellers identify promising product areas and understand search results.

  • Product Opportunity Explorer provides third-party sellers with detailed insights into what customers are searching for, clicking on, and buying, as well as sales history, pricing trends, and more, reports Businesswire. Amazon is testing Product Opportunity Explorer in a beta program through the end of the year and will expand the tool to all sellers throughout 2022.
  • Marketplace Product Guidance helps sellers determine which of their products they should offer internationally. The program is available now and open to all U.S. sellers.
  • Global Listing enables sellers to list products on Amazon once and sell globally. Instead of managing products separately across Amazon’s stores, sellers can now replicate their product listings in multiple international stores with just a few clicks. Amazon is currently testing the feature in beta and will open it to all U.S. sellers in early 2022, writes Businesswire.

Also, Amazon CEO Andy Jassy said that the implications of U.S. antitrust legislation could jeopardize the ability of third parties to sell on its platform, reports Geekwire.

“I’d be a little concerned, and I would pay attention to it,” Jassy said during an online event hosted by Amazon for third-party sellers — attempting to marshal support from the same partners that lawmakers contend need to be protected from the company’s tactics.

Bloomberg notes that the marketplace is both Amazon’s defense against prospective regulation, as well as the source of all those horror stories spurring lawmakers and regulators to act in the first place.
